Whyte and Mackay Distillery embarked on an expansion project to increase their production capacity by installing twenty-six blending and storage vessel tanks. Project Challenges

Remote Location: The distillery is located in a remote area of northern Scotland, presenting logistical challenges for transporting and setting up the crane equipment.
Limited Access: The installation site had restricted access, requiring careful planning to manoeuvre the crane and tanks into position.
Heavy Loads: The tanks, each weighing approximately 9.75Te, required a crane with sufficient lifting capacity and stability.

Project Solutions

PSG Marine and Logistics deployed several cranes throughout the project equipped with advanced lifting technology and operated by a skilled team. The cranes were chosen for their ability to handle heavy loads and navigate the challenging terrain.

Project Execution

Site Assessment: The team conducted a thorough site assessment to plan the crane’s positioning and the lifting sequence. This included mapping out the route for transporting the crane and tanks to the site.
Transport and Setup: The tanks were transported to the site using specialized trailers. Loaded by crane at the port and delivered to two awaiting cranes on site for top and tail lifting.
Precision Lifting: Using two cranes to lift and make the tanks vertical, the team meticulously planned each lift. The tanks were lifted and positioned with precision, ensuring they were securely installed without any damage. Once landed, the team then drilled, and securely bolted into position.
Coordination: Close coordination with the contractor and distillery staff was maintained throughout the project to ensure smooth execution and address any on-site challenges promptly.

Project Outcome

The project was completed successfully, with all tanks installed on schedule and within budget. The distillery was able to commence with their next phase of installing walkways between the tanks. The collaboration between Briggs of Burton and PSG Marine and Logistics demonstrated the importance of precise planning and execution in complex lifting projects.
